A backyard full of roses

David studied art in college, but knew as soon as he picked up a camera that he’d found his muse. A member of the Baltimore Camera Club throughout the 80’s and 90’s, David fell in love with nature photography when grappling with the front-yard roses of his parents’ home.

“In Baltimore,” he explains “you don’t grow roses in the front yard. It doesn’t make sense, but my mother always said you should grow the roses in the back yard.” Except, Mom had a rosebush in the front yard. It was the roses that drew David’s interest and it remains the roses at the center of his flower portraits.

David and his camera can be found meandering the paths of Cylburn Arboretum and in the backyard of his family’s home, maintaining the roses.
